Democrats regain control of state House, Senate

It looks like Minnesota Democrats have regained control of the House and Senate after losing control of both houses two years ago.

Because of redistricting all 201 of Minnesota’s legislative seats were up for grabs.

Prior to the election, Republicans controlled both the house and senate. In the House, the GOP controlled 72 seats to the DFL’s 62 seats.

In the Senate, it’s 37 Republicans to 30 Democrats.

As of 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the DFL had already won 33 races in the house, compared to just 13 Republican victories. There are 134 seats up for grabs.

In the Senate, the DFL had claimed 17 of the 67 seats. Republicans had won nine.
