Rogers junior Reed Parent placed 26th at the state cross country meet on Saturday, highest finish of any of the area state qualifiers.
Parent, who qualified with a fourth-place finish in his section, ran the 5,000 meters at St. Olaf College at Northfield in 16:09.9, a personal best despite a challenging course capped by a grueling hill climb. His previous best was 16:12 at the Rogers Invitational.
The winner, Wayde Hall of Stillwater, finished in 15:21.0.
The 5-foot-7, 135-pound Parent moved up 34 places from last year when he placed 70th in 16:46.
Parent just missed all-state status, which goes to the top 25 among 176 in the field.
Elk River boys and girls and Spectrum girls were also at state as teams. No other area runners placed in the top 50.
