Families run 5K for the ‘fun’ of it

The rain held off and more than 100 adults, youth and families from around the area took part in the third annual ECFE 2K Walk/5K Run

last Saturday at the Handke Center in Elk River. Experienced runners as well as families with strollers took off at 10 a.m. through two established routes: one crossing Lake Orono and the other throughout the local neighborhood and returning to the Handke Center.

Afterwards, families enjoyed activities in ECFE’s Nature Explore Center, which included nature activities, bounce houses, face painting, apple painting, sports activities and more.

“Our goal was to encourage families to be healthy, exercise and to enjoy the Nature Explore Center,” said Julia Nielsen, a marketing coordinator for the Elk River Area School District. “Our ECFE Advisory Council and staff did an excellent job coordinating the events, volunteers and activities.”

Health Partners was on hand at the ECFE Fun Run with high energy and fun giveaways.

Riverway Clinics of Elk River also had a bicycle team there with a cart of fruit after the event. Other sponsors included Rogers Printing, Arbonne, Partstock, Coborn’s, YMCA, Elk River Area Early Childhood Coalition, Elk Plaza Dental and A Breath of Life.
