Grandmother returns to cover for gas-stealing granddaughter, police believe

A gas station attendant at BP, 19696 Evans St., Elk River, reported to police on the morning of Oct. 21 a 71-year-old Bovey woman came into the store to pay for a pair of gas drive offs. One was from Oct. 10 in the amount of $40.36, and the other was for $6.05 on Oct. 20.

The person responsible for the theft on Oct. 20 had fled when an attendant peeled back paper tape on the license plate.

Police believe the woman who paid the charges was the grandmother of the violator.
