Ronning, Bartlett, Johnson get state coaches awards

Phil Johnson, Jenn Bartlett and Randy Ronning received their coach of the year plaques.


Three District 728 coaches were among those honored at the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association banquet last Saturday.

Randy Ronning received the Class AA Boys Tennis Coach of the Year award.  A substitute teacher and tennis teaching pro, he coached Elk River to an unbeaten state championship season last spring.

Jenn Bartlett received the Class A Coach of the Year award. Bartlett coached the Elk River-Roger-Zimmerman team that has to split into three after the regular season. She was honored for Zimmerman, which had a section team for the first time. She also got the Class A award in 2008 for Rogers.

Phil Johnson received the Class AA Girls Golf Assistant Coach of the Year award for Elk River where he assists both Dave Bleyhl with the girls and Dave Conley with the boys.  The longtime ERHS science teacher is also freshman football coach.
