Cross country: Thunder girls 7th, boys 8th in GRC; two girls all-conference

Zimmerman runners Nikki Jurik and Meghan Tillman each earned all-conference honors as the  Thunder girls placed seventh and the boys eighth  at the Granite Ridge Conference meet Tuesday in Princeton.

“I could not be happier for Meghan and Nikki. These two athletes work so hard, and it is nice to see that work pay off,”  said coach Mike Back. “All the girls ran well.”

Jurik placed eighth in 16:28, Tillman 12th in 16:41. The Thunder, who ran incomplete until the last two meets, also had Kelsie Tufto 43rd (17:49), Kelsey Forster 48th (18:04), Makenna Upton 60h (19:54), and Jackie Charles 43rd (22:08).

The boys were missing No. 2 runner Tyler Lorden, who had a separated shoulder playing basketball.

“The team finished one place better than last year, even without one of our top scorers,” said Back. “I was relatively pleased with how the kids ran.  We are heading in the right direction, but still have a ways to go.”

Tyler Asmus placed 28th (18:31), Jordan Jeandron 45th (19:31), Chase Laxdal 48th (19:38), Connor Gagne 50th (19:52), Brandon Wraspir 57th (20:30) and Travis Carr 60th (20:48).

The Little Falls girls and St. Cloud Cathedral boys were champions. Individual winners were Cathedral’s Rachel Eickhoff in 15:28 and Foley’s Charlie Lawrence in 15:57.
