Grant Tesdahl and Joey Benz pumped in two goals apiece as Elk River-Zimmerman ousted Rogers 4-1 in the Section 8AA quarterfinal on Thursday evening.

The No. 2 seeded Elks (8-7-1) will  host No. 3 St. Michael-Albertville (11-3-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The other semifinal will have No. 1 Moorhead (12-2-1) hosting No. 4 St. Cloud Tech (12-4-1).

Tesdahl, junior midfielder with just one goal previously, got the Elks started with an unlikely shot launched from the corner. He ripped the ball over the goalkeeper, CJ Rice, into t he back of the net.

Benz, junior mid, set up the second goal with a crossing pass right to Tesdahl’s feet in the box. Tesdahl turned with the ball and rapped it in.

Benz, who leads the team with seven goals, made it 3-0 with a dart from the top of the box and that was the halftime score.

Rogers’ top scorer Isaac Aanerud scored on a penalty kick in the second half. The Royals put some more pressure on the goal but didn’t score.

Benz got the clincher as he gathered in Storm Heyer’s pass from midfield, made a spin move and shot low from about 20 yards.

Heyer, who was the team’s top goal scorer with five goals and three assists before missing seven games with a stress fracture, was back in the lineup for the first time since the injury.

Rogers, seeded No. 7, finished 5-8-4.
