Cross country: Sting girls 2nd, boys 4th in dual conference meet

The Spectrum girls placed second and the boys fourth in a combined conference meet of six  schools from the MCAA and MCSC loops Thursday at Basset Creek Park in Crystal.

The Trinity girls won with 31, followed by Spectrum 48, MSA 26 and St. Croix Prep 28.
Lucy Leighton of Trinity led 35 runners with 15:25, followed by Spectrum’s Kayla Zimmerman with 15:28.

Spectrum’s next four ran in a bunch as Elizabeth Hackbarth was eighth (16:00), Noelle Dieman ninth (16:21), Rebecca Peterson 10th (16:23) and Brittney Waterhouse 11th (16:24), followed by Marissa Kuik in 14th (16:48). The top six Spectrum runners made all-conference.

The Trinity boys also won, with 33, followed by MSA 45, Heritage Christian 87, Spectrum 97 and Southwest Christian 109.

Jacob Siekmeier of MSA was first with 16:45.

Spectrum had Chad Schwinghammer 14th (18:41) and made all-conference. Nathaniel Hackbarth 25th (19:31), Matthew Hoffman 27th (19:38), and Kalvin Diekman 29th (19:47).

Next for Spectrum is the St. Croix Invitational on Tuesday.
