Soccer: Eden Prairie boys nip Elks 1-0; playoffs next

Elk River-Zimmerman closed the regular season with a 1-0 loss to a strong Eden Prairie team on Saturday in Eden Prairie.

“Cody Christ had a great game in goal, making some nice saves,” said coach Tom Olson. “Ross Berger did an outstanding job shutting down his side on defense.”

Abdul Omar scored in the 79th minute for Eden Prairie (12-4) when the Elks made a mistake in coverage.

The Elks had their best chance shortly after that, with Nelson Valdez getting past the defense for a shot that the goalie stopped, with the Elks then missing on a rebound.

The Elks will take a 7-7-2 mark into sectionals starting Thursday, mostly likely with a home match..
