First-place Maple Grove dominated the second half and beat Elk River 4-1 in the regular season finale on Thursday evening at Schempf Field.

Abby McDonald scored for the Elks in the first half and Maggie Lynch countered for the Crimson. The 1-1 tie was broken when Haley Nelson scored in the 44th and 55th minutes and Anna Sivanich in the 63rd minute. Nelson’s second goal came after a long inbounds kick by Lynch over the Elks defense leaving the shooter and goalie one-on-one.

Maple Grove, 12-2-1 overall and ranked No. 4,  is 7-1-1 in  conference with last-place Osseo left on the schedule.

The Elks, 5-7-4 overall but 3-1-2 in the section, have a good chance for a home game when Section 8AA opens next Thursday.

Pursuing the ball during a corner kick were Emma Trittin (6), Emily Lewis (4) and Lizzie Holien (16) of the Elks, and Kailey Beatt (13) and Natalie Engel (14) of the Crimson. (Photo by Bruce Strand)
