Elk River High School’s DECA program is promoting local small businesses with a “Don’t Stop the Shop” initiative.
Students are being asked to sign a pledge to buy from local businesses and to support Elk River entrepreneurs. They are also turning to the greater community in this quest.
“Local businesses and entrepreneurs are the building blocks for our society, so it’s important that we support them as much as we can,” said Andrew Larson, a member of the advanced marketing class at Elk River High School.
Larson and fellow student Carly Hagstrom stopped by the Star News this week to explain their class is not only promoting the pledge but they will also study the effect of an entrepreneurship promotion plan for the city of Elk River to see if local businesses notice an increase in sales during the week of Oct. 22–26.
“We ask that you (the community) join us for one week to buy local and support local businesses,” Hagstrom said.
