Soccer: Unbeaten Rebels fend off Elk boys 2-1
Unbeaten, No. 4 ranked Champlin Park fought off an upset bid by Elk River-Zimmerman 2-1 on Tuesday in Champlin.
Sydney McLain, junior attacker, scored in the first half, and again four minutes into the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie.
Mickey Sanders, senior forward, scored his first goal for the Elks. The assist came from goalkeeper Cody Christ.
“Cody had a phenomenal game for us,” said Elk coach Tom Olson. “He kept is in the game.”
Champlin Park is 8-0-1 in the NWSC and 12-0-1 overall. The Elks dropped to 2-6-1 and 7-6-1.
The Elks will host Maple Grove in the conference finale on Thursday.
