A second-half rally by Rogers fell short as the Royals lost to Monticello 4-3 on Senior Night on Tuesday.
The Magic (5-3 conference, 8-5-1 overall) led 3-0 at halftime, but the Royals caught up with goals by seniors Brady Johnson and Kenny Kalk, and freshman Logan Olkon.
“It was great to have both the seniors score because it was senior night,” noted coach Chris Miller.
Rogers, which also had three shots off the pipes, controlled the ball most of the time in the second half.
However, with one minute left, a ball got past the defense, and Monticello’s Nick Simondet got off a shot which CJ Rich stopped only to have the ball bounce back to the same player who buried the second shot.
Simondet scored twice for the Magic, and Andy Bales and Carlos Ibares once each, with Zach Beaumaster assisting on two goals.
Rogers (2-5-1 conference, 3-10-1 overall) will close the regular season hosting Buffalo on Thursday.
