With five starters missing, the Elk River Elks were drubbed by the Centennial Cougars 6-0 at home on Thursday evening.
Centennial, one of the top teams in the NWSC, was led by D-I recruit Jenna Roering with a goal and three assists, and Katri Gifford with two goals. Also scoring were Brie Bourdage, Ferrol Rome, and Nan Glinsek. The Cougars are 4-1-2 in conference and 9-1-2 overall.
The Elks (2-5-1 conference, 5-6-2 overall) are missing five starters for reasons coach Brian Steuter did not divulge. They will also miss the game at Rogers on Saturday.
Steuter praised defenders Jenna Kivley and Rachel Mynahan for good efforts in making the best of a tough situation.
The Elks have a doubleheader at Rogers on Saturday, boys at 11 a.m. and girls at 1 p.m.
