Methane plant at landfill turning 10

Elk River Municipal Utilities is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the landfill gas-to-electricity production plant from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The public is invited to the Elk River Landfill for the celebration, which will highlight the production of enough renewable energy to supply the electricity for more than 19,000 average homes for one year. The facility generates enough power to supply 10 percent of the homes and businesses in the city.

The event will feature brief speeches by city, county and state representatives who contributed to the building of the existing facilities and build momentum for a future expansion.
