Tennis: Royals edged by Buffalo and Monticello

The Rogers Royals lost a pair of 4-3 matches to conference teams this week, against Buffalo on Monday and Monticello on Tuesday. TheirĀ  record is 2-7 in conference and 6-14 overall, with one regular-season match left, at Cambridge on Thursday.

Coach Debbie Conley noted that her lineup is quite young, and the conference quite strong, and the focus has been on doubles play. She cited captains Julia Sporer, Rachel Dodd, and Katie Meyer for leadership in a rebuilding year.

“This (season) is ground work that will benefit the team next year,” said Conley. “I am impressed with this team’s versatility in playing doubles or singles, always giving their best effort, and learning from each match.”
