Cross country: Elks 11th at Apple Valley gala, Lucas Trapp 7th

Led by Lucas Trapp in seventh place, the Elk River cross country team placed 11th among 20 squads in the Eagle Invitational at Apple Valley on Saturday.

Eden Prairie won decisively with 61 points, followed by Owatonna (101) and Waseca (192).

Waseca had the individual winner in sophomore Shane Streich in 16:04, followed by St. Michael-Albertville senior Brenda Sage (16:13).

Trapp, a freshman, made his mark in a strong field, placing seventh among 145 runners in 16:49, with his brother Ryan, a senior, running 17th in 17:00.

Breck Hickman placed 46th (17:40), Nate Webster 67th (18:00), Sam Gearou 115th (18:47), Alexander Holm 123rd (19:12) and Josh Gearou 126th (19:22).

“The boys team has tremendous potential because of the excellent performances of Lucas, Ryan, Breck Hickman and Nate Webster,” said coach Mike Niziolek. “If these four continue to run strong and the rest of the team strengthens the number 5 ,6, 7 spots, we will have a great October.”

Next for the Elks is the Roy Griak Invitational next Saturday.
