Cross country: Elk girls 9th among 20 at Apple Valley

The Elk River girls placed ninth among 20 teams at Apple Valley’s Eagle Invitational on Saturday.

Eagan placed first (75 points), followed by Edina (117) and Chanhassen (119).

Three-time state champion Maria Hauger, a Shakopee senior, blazed to first place in 13:57, sixteen seconds ahead of runner-up Danielle Anderson of Eagan.

The Elks were led by Kennedy Warner in 27th place (15:33) and Rachel Ness in 31st place (15:38).

Maria Brown placed 68th (16:29), Anna Haugen 70th (16:32), Gabriella Jung 78th (16:41), Kari Radke 82nd (16:48) and Chelsea Schlegel 117th (17:52) among 138 runners.

“I think our girls team is showing  tremendous promise because of their depth,” said coach Mike Niziolek. “If we can get the entire team to improve several percents, I think they will be very happy with the team’s accomplishments at the end of the season.”


Next for the Elks is the Roy Griak Invitational next Saturday.
