The Rogers Royals came up short against St. Michael-Albertville 3-2 on Thursday evening on the Knights’ field.
“It was a good game, an interesting game,” said Royal coach Chris Miller, adding, “There were some things beyond our control.”
Rogers goals were scored by Mike Biah, who pounced on a bouncing ball after a throw-in by Isaac Aanerud, in the first half, and by Mitch Steeves, also booting a loose ball near the net, after a header by Aanerud bounced off another player, in the 65th minute.
Miller thought Nahome Biniam scored, too, on a 20-yard shot in the first half, which the coach suspected broke the plane before the Knight goalie caught it.
STMA scored twice in the first half and took a 3-1 lead on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
The Royals fell to 2-3-1 conference, 3-7-1 overall, while second-place STMA improved to 4-1 and 6-3-1.
Rogers will play at Cambridge-Isanti on Tuesday.
