Soccer: Armstrong cools down Elk boys 1-0

Twenty-four hours after a scoring binge by Elk River, the Elks were stymied by Armstrong 1-0 on Thursday evening in Robbinsale.

“Armstrong is a better team than Osseo,” said Elk coach Tom Olson, referring to the 6-2 win over the Orioles on Wednesdsay, “but we were not finishing tonight, either. We had our chances.”

The Elks had one shot hit the post, and others that went wide or right at the goalie, said Olson.

And the lone goal scored on a rare mistake by goalie Cody Christ, who left the net to try cover a ball and Falcon forward Matt Fox beat him to it and flicked it into the net, in the 30th minute.

“Cody has been so strong for us,” said Olson. “That’s just once in 11 games, which is remarkable.”

The Elks are 2-4-1 in the NWSC and 6-4-1 overall. Armstrong improved to 3-3-1 and 4-5-2.

The Elks will host Centennial next Thursday.
