Janell Finkbeiner served 11 aces to lead Elk River past Coon Rapids 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-19 on Thursday evening at home.
Serve errors were a sore point for the Elks as they missed 19, but they also aced 17 of them.
Finkbeiner, who also had eight kills, pulled out game three as she pounded down a kill to tie it 20-20, then served four straight points, three of them aces, for a 24-20 lead before hitting the net. The final point came on a Cardinal error.
The 5-foot-10 senior setter/outside hitter ended the match with her 11th ace, as the Elks improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the NWSC.
Kara Ziemer rattled off 18 kills, Lindsey Lowe nine, Bailey Lundquist five and Kennedy Strain four. Strain made four blocks and Lundquist three.
Strain, 6-foot sophomore middle blocker, saw her most extended action because senior starter Austyn Beese missed the match with a problem with her eye.
Coon Rapids, which did a good job blocking throughout the match, dropped to 1-3 in conference and 4-5 overall.
The Elks will play in the Sauk Rapids-Rice Invitational on Saturday.
