Soccer: Royal girls prevail 1-0 over Monticello

Jenna Trochlil delivered the lone goal as the Rogers Royals stymied the Monticello Magic 1-0 at home on Thursday.

Trochlil, junior forward, dribbled to the edge of the 18-foot marker and booted it inside the far post,  in the 54th minute.

The Royals had 22 shots and controlled the action most of the game. Magic goalie Abbey Bradway made a couple of diving saves late in the match to keep the score 1-1.

The victory was the second in three days for Royals, now 3-5-1 for the season. On Tuesday, they won 8-0 over Big Lake. Their conference record is 3-1. Monticello is 1-1-1 in conference and 3-2-2 overall.

The Royals have been shut out six times, but have been stout on defense all year, allowing just six goals. Coach Holly Sutton cited Abby Gearou, Janaye Rouillard, Linsi Osland,  Tessa Quintavall and goalkeeper Cassidy Stutelberg for leading a strong team defensive effort all season.

The Royals will host Buffalo on Tuesday.
