Soccer: Elk girls stalemate with Park Center 0-0

The Elk River and Park Center scrapped to a 0-0 tie on Thursday evening in Brooklyn Park.

Elk coach Brian Steuter credited his defense and goalkeeper for averting a loss.

“Park Center put a lot of pressure on us, and  really got us out of our rhythm (offensively),” he said. “Fortunately, our defense played well all night and Brienna Dehkes came up with some big saves.”

The Pirates almost scored with 10 minutes left. Dehkes laid out and got a hand on the first shot, and the Pirates then missed on a rebound.

Steuter credited Jenna Kively with a good job marking the Pirates top scorer.

The Elks are 1-3-1 in conference and 3-4-2 overall. Park Center is 2-2-2 conference, 3-2-3 overall.

Next is a home match with Osseo on Wednesday.
