Cross country: Elk boys 2nd to Forest Lake at St. Francis meet

With the Trapp brothers placing third and fourth, the Elk River boys were runners-up in the 13-team St. Francis Invitational on Thursday.

Lucas Trapp, Elk freshman, a state qualifier last year who missed the first two meets this season with injury, placed third in 17:13 in his season debut.  Ryan Trapp, a senior, was next in 17.21.

Forest Lake was team champion and had the individual winner in senior Jacob Jankowski (16:22).

The Rangers had 71 points, followed by Elk River 84, Chisago Lakes 85, St. Francis 144, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 146, Cooper 151, Blaine 201, Highland Park 208, Cambridge-Isanti 220. St. Anthony Village 231, Fridley 247, Spring Lake Park 264, and Spectrum 381.

Elk junior Breck Hickman was 15th (17:43), senior Nate Webster 17th (17:49) and Sam Gearou 45th (18:48) among 97 runners.

Next will be the Mounds View Invitational on Friday, Sept. 21.
