Volleyball: Elks overcome Champlin Park in five games
The Elk River volleyball team pulled out its second hard-fought, five-game, conference road win of the season Tuesday night, prevailing at Champlin Park 25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11.
The Elks overcame a stellar performance by Taylor Goar for Champlin Park (1-2 conference, 6-5 overall). She made 19 kills and 10 digs, and served for 11 points, five of them aces. Miriya Sampon made seven solo blocks and 10 kills.
For the Elks, Kara Ziemer delivered 15 kills and 12 digs, served 17-for-18 with two aces and made 26 serve receives. Janell Finkbeiner provided nine kills and 20 assists, and served 17-for-17 with four aces. Austyn Beese added six kills. Bailey Lundquist chipped in five kills, 15 assists and 13 digs. Rachel Anderson notched 25 serve receives and 10 digs.
The Elks are 2-1 in conference and 5-1 overall. Their other NWSC win was an equally close five-gamer at Centennial.
The Elks will play at Coon Rapids on Thursday.
