Soccer: Blaine fends off Elk girls 3-2
Blaine sophomore star Britney Monteon delivered the game-winner as the Bengals tipped the Elk River Elks 3-2 on Tuesday evening in Blaine.
Logan Daulton and Chelsea Petrich scored for the Elks (1-3 conference, 3-4-1 overall).
Monteon broke a 2-2 halftime tie by scoring in the 46th minute, a twisting, left-footed shot from with 18-foot marker that curled over goalie Brienna Dehkes head — her 15th goal of the season.
Daulton notched her seventh goal with an assist from Petrich to tie the score 1-1. On a corner kick later in the half, Petrich got the goal as she took a crossing pass from Abby McDonald and booted the ball right to the goalkeeper, who caught it, but had fallen down and was inside the net.
Ashley Pafko had a corner kick goal for Blaine (3-1 conference, 5-1-1 overall) and Savanna Schneider scored with an assist from Monteon, both in the first half.
The Elks will play at Park Center on Thursday.
