Cross country: Elk girls, boys both 14th in big Hopkins meet

The Elk River girls and boys each placed 14th in the Bauman-Rovn Invitational, which has one of the strongest fields in the state each year, on Thursday.

The meet hosted by Hopkins was held at Gale Woods Farms in Three Rivers Park in Mound.

Chanhassen placed first among 16 girls teams, and Hopkins placed first among 17 boys teams.

Individual winners were Carly Bandt of Mounds View (14:43) and Joe Klecker of Hopkins (15:56).

Rachel Ness of the Elks placed 19th in 15:31. Others in the Elks top five were Anna Haugen, 72nd in 16:36, Kari Radke, 92nd in 16:48; Gabby Jung, 101st in 16:48; and Kailey Erdahl, 118th in 17:31.

Ryan Trapp led the Elk boys, 43rd place in 17:23. Also in the top five were Breck Hickman in 64th (17:45), Nate Webster 74th (17:59), Sam Gearou 107th (18:47), and Josh Gearou 117th (19:14).

The Elks were missing their top two runners as Jake Schroeder had to drop out with a sprained ankle and Lucas Trapp is still recovering from an achilles tendon) problem.

Next meet will be the St.  Francis Invitational next Thursday.

The Elks placed third in the junior high race, led by two girls normally on varsity — Kennedy Warner in second place (10:47) and Maria Brown in sixth place (11:50) among 107 runners, on a course approximately 2.7 kilometers.
