Volleyball: Thunder roll past Pine City in opener
Brooke Borchardt and Nikki O’Keefe led the attack as the Zimmerman Thunder won their opener 25-6, 25-11, 25-11 over the Pine City Dragons on Tuesday evening in Pine City.
“Everyone played and played well,” said coach Rita Belka. “Great way to start off the season.”
Borchardt made 12 kills in 15 attempts, and O’Keefe 13 kills i 18 attempts. Alyssa Bright added five in 11 tries and Amber Magnusson four in eight tries.
Amanda Meleen put up 28 assists. The team served 91 percent with six aces, three by Borchardt. O’Keefe led with nine digs as Pine City was not able to mount much of an attack.
On Thursday, the Thunder will host defending section champion Maple Lake.
