The Elk River girls were knocked hard from the unbeaten ranks on Tuesday as defending state champion Wayzata came to town.

The Trojans, with 13 players back who saw significant playing time last year, tumbled the Elks 4-0 at Jerry Schempf Field.

Kyle Schwarz, a senior midfielder with a powerful leg, had three of the goals.

The Elks had won twice in overtime, against Moorhead 2-1 and Buffalo 4-2, before getting stymied by the Trojans (2-0).

The Elks will open conference at Andover on Thursday.
