Soccer: Royal girls tie Pirates 0-0 in opener cut short by lightning
The Rogers Royals and Park Center Pirates were battling to a 0-0 tie in their opener Thursday evening when the weather settled the issue in Brooklyn Park.
Due to lightning, the game was called with 19 minutes remaining, and will go in the books as a scoreless tie.
Royal coach Holly Sutton said it was a frustrating game as her team was “in possession about 90 percent of the time but couldn’t finish” and wound up with only a tie.
The coach cited Tessa Quintaville controlling the middle, Lindsay Paul for good work on the outside mid, Maddy Pippen’s stout defense in the back, and goalie Cassidy Stutelberg for some tough saves.
The Royals will play at Eagan on Saturday.
