Sherburne County could become an innovator for dental discounts in Minnesota with approval of a program that would allow residents to get breaks on fees for everything from periodic evaluations and cleanings to tooth extractions and root canals.
Commissioner Larry Farber shared more with his fellow board members Aug. 14 about the National Association of Counties’ dental discount program, which he said is new enough that no other Minnesota county yet has voted to act as a conduit. Sherburne County could be the first.
After county staff prepares and presents some documents at an upcoming meeting, where commissioners would officially consider approval, county residents could pay just $59 annually per individual or $69 per family for NACo dental membership. Card holders receive discounts of 20 percent on orthodontics and other specialty procedures, according to data shared by county staff, and sometimes up to 50 percent for visits such as routine exams, cleanings and crown work — all at participating clinics. Farber said there would be several in Elk River, Big Lake and St. Cloud.
