Counterfeit bills passed at two garage sales
Having a garage sale anytime soon? Beware of counterfeiters if you are.
Elk River police are investigating three cases of counterfeit bills being passed, including ones that were passed at two garage sales.
“We have not been able to examine the bills as of yet, but we had two cases where someone allegedly passed the bills at garage sales and another case where the bill was passed at a business. The bills were a $5 bill, $10 bill, and a $20 bill,” said Elk River Police Capt. Robert Kluntz
One person believes the possible suspect was driving a green Jeep Cherokee, Kluntz said.
The business that received counterfeit money was the thrift store in between Coborn’s and Menards.
Marijuana found growing on city land
A 48-year-old Elk River man reported July 31 what he believed to be wild marijuana growing on a stretch of land in the 1400 block of Main Street that was part city property and part private property. Officers confirmed the man’s suspicions and the weeds were eradicated by city staff.
Lawn furniture taken from Elk River lawn
A 42-year-old Elk River man reported the theft of lawn furniture on the evening of Aug. 5. Four chairs (green and beige) and a glass table were taken sometime between July 30 and Aug. 4 in the 11000 block of Brentwood Street.
Vehicles damaged at Babcock Park
Elk River police discovered two cases of criminal damage to property while responding to take the report of one at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at Babcock Park in the 17000 block of Highway 10. An owner of an SUV that had its passenger window busted out reported a purse was removed from her vehicle. The owner of a truck that had a passenger window busted out, too, was not at the scene at the time of the call.
Walmart thief gets away from authorities
Elk River police responded to a report of theft shortly before 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at Walmart in the 18000 block of Zane Street. A white female in her 20s believed to be wearing a white tank top and jean shorts fled the store on foot, got into a vehicle and fled the area.
Car damaged out by Lake Orono dam
A vehicle parked at the Orono dam had a window broken out, but the 21-year-old woman who owns the car reported nothing was taken in the incident that happened sometime between 5 and 7 p.m. Aug. 5.
Punctured pool not part of CDP rash
Elk River police are investigating another punctured pool, but this one they don’t believe is related to a spree of criminal damage to property complaints.
Police were called on this one at 11:44 a.m. Aug. 5. The owner of the pool in the 14000 block of 202nd Avenue has provided possible suspect information.
Motorist gets break after being clocked at 94 mph
A 28-year-old Burnsville man got a speeding ticket about 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5 after being clocked going 94 mph along Highway 169 in the area of 205th Avenue. The officer who issued the ticket observed the motorist make an aggressive lane change to the left lane of the southbound roadway at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped at the intersection of 197th Avenue and the driver was issued a ticket for going 80 in a 65 mph zone.
Man arrested for assaulting his wife
A 30-year-old Elk River man was arrested for gross misdemeanor domestic assault after allegedly assaulting his wife in the 17000 block of Monroe Court. Police were called to the home at 2:08 a.m. Aug. 5.
Failing to signal alerts officer to drunk driver
A 22-year-old Ramsey woman was arrested for DWI after failing to signal about 2 a.m. Aug. 5 at the intersection of Main Street and Line Avenue.
Vehicle broken into at Marcus Theater
Elk River police took a report of theft from a motor vehicle shortly before 10 p.m. Aug. 4 in the Marcus Theater parking lot. A complainant reported someone busted out her passenger’s side window between 7:10 and 9:30 p.m. and took a purse, wallet, a Buffalo Wild Wings work uniform and an identification card.
Vehicle broken into but not stolen from
A 26-year-old Elk River woman reported that her car window was broken out while it was parked in the 18000 block of Freeport but nothing was taken. The damage was done between 4 and 9:15 p.m.
Becker man, 29, arrested for DWI
A 29-year-old Becker man was arrested for DWI after police were alerted at 11:12 a.m. Aug. 4 to the motorist by a motorist who followed the vehicle until it pulled into a driveway along 183rd Avenue. Police located the suspect who was arrested for DUI, possession of a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle and drug paraphernalia.
Police begin process to seize vehicle
A 55-year-old Ramsey man was arrested for DWI on Aug. 3 after being observed hopping a curb at the intersection of Main Street and Parrish Avenue and then cross fog and center lines along eastbound Highway 10. Police have initiated forfeiture proceedings on the man’s vehicle.
Ramsey man, 25, arrested for possession
A 25-year-old Ramsey man was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana after being stopped for a cracked windshield, suspended objects and window tint on Aug. 3. An officer noticed a chrome “grinder” in plain view and inquired about marijuana possession. The driver advised the officer the exact location of a pipe, which was seized along with the grinder, which contained a green leafy substance.
Woman, 19, tricked into giving information
A 19-year-old Elk River woman reported that she received a call from a person saying they were investigating fraud, and she gave away some personal information over the phone. The woman, who lives in the 18000 block of Tyler Street, now believes the call was not legitimate and called police Aug. 2.
Girl, 17, cited for underage consumption
A 17-year-old Elk River girl was cited Aug. 1 for underage consumption in the 13000 block of 181st Circle after a parent requested an officer to respond and administer a Breathalyzer test. The girl is reportedly currently participating in an outpatient treatment program and believed she came home intoxicated.
Police to seize Melrose man’s vehicle
A 70-year-old Melrose man was arrested for DWI after an officer observed the man’s vehicle cross the right fog line several times on July 31 along Highway 10 in the area of Simonet Drive. The process to seize the vehicle was initiated.
Zimmerman man, 22, arrested for DWI
A 22-year-old Zimmerman man was arrested for DWI about 1 a.m. July 31 after being stopped for a lane violation in the area of the 20700 block of Elk Lake Road.
Anoka man, 43, arrested for DWI
A 43-year-old Anoka man was arrested for DWI about 7 p.m. July 30 after police received a call of an erratic driver travelling westbound on Highway 10 from Adams Street. An officer located the vehicle and stopped it for going through a red light and a cracked windshield.
Theft from locked vehicle reported
A complainant in the 18000 block of Pascal Street reported Aug. 7 the theft of sunglasses, a cell phone and charger from his locked vehicle. A digital camera and charger were also reported stolen from a locked work vehicle at this address.
Police look into case of hit-and-run bicyclist
Elk River police are investigating a possible hit-and-run accident that happened shortly after noon Aug. 7.
A complainant reported seeing a Mitsubishi Montero making a right turn from eastbound Main Street to go southbound on Zane Street at the same time a juvenile male on a bike was crossing Zane Street. The vehicle reportedly struck and pinned the tire of the bike.
Per a witness, the driver backed up and drove around the bike and fallen bicyclist. It did not appear the child was injured, the witness said.
Police responded and were unable to locate either party involved.
Social host ordinance citations issued
Elk River police were called to an assault at about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at Beaudry Express in the 600 block of Proctor Avenue. The investigation brought them to an address on Proctor Avenue where they made contact with a possible suspect. The suspect was underage and had been drinking alcohol.
The suspect admitted to police that she had provided some alcohol to another underage person. A 15-year-old Elk River girl was cited for minor consumption, a 24-year-old Elk River man as well as a 23-year-old Elk River man were cited for violation of the social host ordinance. An 18-year-old Elk River woman was cited for underage possession of alcohol and procuring alcohol for a minor.
Another theft from unlocked vehicle
A complainant in the 1100 block of Lions Park reported a theft from motor vehicle at 9:42 p.m. Aug. 6. Taken was a Pioneer stereo from an unlocked vehicle while parked at Lions Park.
