The Elk River Area School Board agreed Monday night to establish an ad hoc committee of the District 728 School Board to work with the community to gather support, information and possible funding avenues for auditoriums in conjunction with high schools in Zimmerman and Rogers.
School Board Chairwoman Jolene Jorgensen and Sue Farber will serve on the committee, which will be light on administrative help until after the first of the year given the pending levy referendum campaign.
School Board Member Janelle Henry was not at the meeting, but she wrote against the establishment of the committee at this time. She told board members she could support the formation of such a committee at a later date when there is less on the administration’s plate.
Jorgensen said the wheels have been turning for some time on the issue, and she has received a lot of calls of interest from the community since news of the possible committee was published.
“We have a lot of community support,” she said. “And we don’t need a lot of administrative support at this point.”
A first step will be to recruit and assemble a committee, which could decide to define needs, develop a facility design, engage in community cafes and investigate private and public funding streams.
A high level of importance will need to be placed on alignment with the district’s strategic plan, goals and measurements.
It was suggested that such a committee could help build community between Rogers and Zimmerman.
