A designated right-turn lane will be added at the intersection of Highway 169 and Jackson Avenue in Elk River.
The 225-foot lane will be for motorists eastbound on Jackson Avenue approaching Highway 169 to go south.
The Elk River City Council has agreed to pay up to $35,000 to add the lane as part of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s mill and overlay project on Highway 169 that began earlier this month.
City Engineer Justin Femrite said it is estimated the work would cost about $50,000 if it were a stand-alone project. By folding it into the MnDOT project, it is estimated to cost about $30,000.
