Despite racking up 13 hits and making no errors, the Elk River Pioneers lost to a strong Coon Rapids team 8-2 there Monday evening.
Coon Rapids (24-7) collected 10 hits and nine walks off three Pioneer pitchers, took a 6-0 lead after two innings and coasted to the win.
Leading the Redbirds was Dan Skog, who pitched six shutout innings with five strikeouts, and went 2-for-4 with two-run singles in both the first and second innings for four RBI.
Brandon Giese took the loss for the Pioneers (7-10), giving up six runs in three innings on four hits and six walks. Lance Johnson gave up one run in three innings, and Cory Kaminski one run in two innings.
Mike Lorden and Giese each went 3-for-4 while Kaminski and Jake Berwyn were each 2-for-5. Kaminski and Lorden had the RBI’s.
The Pioneers will play at Howard Lake on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
