Tucker Morrell pitched seven strong innings as Elk River Legion opened sub-district playoffs with a 6-1 victory over Zimmerman on Tuesday evening in St. Cloud.
The Elks (15-6), seeded No. 2, will face the winner of Waite Park vs. Sauk Rapids on Thursday, 8 p.m., at Faber Field in St. Cloud.
Morrell gave up just four hits, two walks and one unearned run, striking out six. Legion playoffs games are nine innings, not seven. Joey Hudson and Sam Krick each threw a scoreless inning.
Brady Givens tripled home a run in the first and finished 2-for-4. Carter Harrop was 2-for-4 with an RBI single and Matt Baker 1-for-2 with an RBI single.
