An eight-run first inning launched the Elk River Pioneers on a 15-3 win over the Quamba Cubs on Tuesday evening in Quamba.
Alex Hoff pitched the distance (eight innings), spacing out seven hits and five walks, striking out eight, to get the win.
Blake Ehley went 3-for-4 with two walks, a double and three runs, while Mike Lorden was 3-for-5 with two runs.
The big first inning included six singles, two walks, and three Quamba errors. Quamba starter Zach Anderson took the loss.
Aaron Pipenhagen was 2-for-4 with a double and two walks, and Harley Thompson 2-for-4 plus a walk and two runs.
The Pioneers (5-8) will play at Blaine on Thursday evening, 7:30 p.m.
The doubleheader on Saturday against Hamel at home will start at 2 p.m., not 1 p.m. as it appears on the schedule, said manager Ken Ott.
