July 4 entertainment: Elk River Idol kids’ music competition

Thirteen youngsters performed in the first Elk River Idol  show on Wednesday as  part of the annual July 4 festivities at Orono Park.

Winners were chosen in three age groups. Following are those winners, announced by program coordinator Kristi Waite.

Mackenzie Miller, 12, won the age 11–14 class, which had  eight entrants. Miller sang “Change,” accompanied by music on a CD. Miller also received the overall top prize based on most votes.

Kyle Rookere

Kyle Rooker, 15, won the age 15–18 class, which had two entrants. He sang “Born this Way,”
accompanied by a CD.

Olivia Robinson

Olivia Robinson, 10, won the age 7–10 division, which had three entrants. She sang “Shine on Us,” acappella.

Also participating (chosen from 18 kids who auditioned) were Brock Stang, Cali Lusgnan, Jenna Nielsen, Emily Mattingly,  Anneke Verhoef, Bailey Rosdahl, Kimlynn Lee, Emily Rosdahl, Kaitlyn Richter and Emily Buck.
