Police report: restaurant burglary, mailbox theft, fire at gas station

Police investigate Mucho Loco burglary
Elk River police are examining security video in hopes of solving a forced entry burglary at Mucho Loco in the 19000 block of Freeport Street June 30. Someone smashed out an east side glass fire door with a rock. Two suspects can be seen on the surveillance video entering the restaurant and stealing several bottles of liquor from bar shelves. Damage has been estimated at $500.

Mailbox thefts and damage reports filed
A resident in the 20000 block of Vance Street called July 2 to report damage to her mailbox and a trellis that was around it. She said she believed it was a vehicle that did the damage, as there were tracks. Estimated loss: $200.

While conducting a follow up on an earlier theft case, an Elk River officer noticed damage to a mailbox July 2 in the 100 block of Elk Hills Drive. The homeowner confirmed  the metal frame and mailbox post were criminally damaged.

The same was discovered with two other mailboxes on the same street. Both were missing a post, believed to be stolen.

The original theft being investigated happened in the 800 block of Line Avenue. Someone stole a mailbox in that case that was reported on the morning of July 2.

Pair of 70-year-olds arrested for DWI
A 70-year-old St. Paul woman and a 70-year-old St. Paul man were arrested for DWI after police were called to a June 30 report of a disorderly conduct call in the 18000 block of Highway 10.

Police learned through the course of their investigation that one of the parties drove to the scene, and the other had driven the vehicle once at the scene.

Truck fire at gas station extinguished
The Elk River Fire Department responded shortly after 8 p.m. July 1 to a vehicle fire at a gas station and convenience store in the 18000 block of Zane Street. Firefighters arrived to find the vehicle’s engine compartment fully engulfed. The vehicle had been pushed away from the gas pumps.

The blaze was extinguished. Cause the of fire was unknown.

Disorderly conduct arrest made
A 30-year-old Elk River man was arrested for disorderly conduct June 29 after an altercation in the 300 block of Baldwin Avenue.

DQ trip proves costly for Elk River man
Elk River police responded to Elk River Dairy Queen on a report of a possible impaired  motorist on the night of June 30. Police arrived in time to observe the suspect enter a vehicle and drive away. The Elk River man, 59, was stopped in the 400 block of Morton Avenue and arrested for DWI.

Theft of AC kit being investigated by police
Elk River police took a theft report at a business June 30 in the 800 block of Freeport Avenue. An unknown suspect entered the store and left without paying for an AC recharging kit. Estimated loss $34.19.

Alcohol likely a factor in one-vehicle crash
Elk River police responded to a one vehicle crash at 3:50 a.m. June 30 in the area of Twin Lakes Road and Viking Boulevard.

They arrived to find a 28-year-old Isanti woman trapped in the vehicle.  She was removed and transported to an area hospital.

Police suspect alcohol was a contributing factor and are awaiting test results.

Topless woman at The Home Depot OK
Elk River police responded to The Home Depot on June 29 to perform a welfare check. Employees there reported a woman told them she was suffering from head pain. She had removed her shirt and bra and had been walking in the garden area topless. Elk River Ambulance responded, too, but cleared after transport was refused.

Bike patrol nabs revoked driver with pot
A bike patrol officer observed a 47-year-old Anoka man driving in the area of the 18000 block of Zane. The man was someone he recognized from previous contact as someone without a license. The officer made contact with the motorist in the Walmart parking lot and observed a green leafy substance in the center console of the van. The driver consented to a search, which produced a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The man was cited for driving after revocation, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Elk River boy’s finger cut by bicycle chain
An Elk River boy’s fingertip was cut off while working on his bicycle on the evening of June 29 in the 18000 block of Carson Street. The juvenile had been adjusting a chain on the bicycle when the accident occurred. The boy was transported to a hospital.

Police issue social host ordinance ticket
Elk River police broke up a party in the 19000 block of Zane Street where several minors were cited for underage consumption June 29. A 21-year-old Elk River man was cited for a social host ordinance violation, and underage individuals from Ramsey, Elk River, Forest Lake, Anoka and Spring Lake Park were arrested for underage consumption.

New Hope woman cited for running red
A 34-year-old New Hope woman was cited for a semaphore violation after her involvement in a two-vehicle crash on the evening of June 28 at the intersection of Highway 10 and Joplin Street.
