Herbert “Sonny” Peter Lindenfelser, 82, of Aitkin, formerly of Elk River, died Wednesday June 27, 2012, at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.
He was born Aug. 3, 1929, in St. Michael to Reinhold and Margaret Lindenfelser. He attended a small country school until the eighth grade before he began working on the family farm. He married Mary Ann Scherber May 1, 1948, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Osseo. The couple resided and farmed in the Elk River area until 1985 when they moved to Elm Island Lake near Aitkin.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, playing on his hand-held poker machines, casino gaming, watching the birds and deer, and observing the lake action. Anyone was always welcome to join him for a cup of coffee and a game of cards. He loved to drive tractors, especially his prized Farmall B.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, July 3 at St. Albert’s Catholic Church in Albertville. Burial will be at a later date at St. Albert’s Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin; www.srtfuneral.com.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Aitkin; daughters, Carol Lindenfelser of Elk River, Janice (Floyd) May of Rush City, Joanne (Tom) Schillewaert of Monticello, Laura Lindenfelser of Ham Lake, Lynn Lindenfelser of Buffalo, and Darlene (Jerry) Lindenfelser of Aitkin; brothers, Lyle (Nona) of Elk River, Glenn (Marge) of Albertville, and Eldred (Marilyn); 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Orville, Melvin and Ronald, and grandsons Ryan and Randall May.
