An Elk River business is featured in the June issue of Enterprise Minnesota.
The story is about Elk River Machine and the Hydra-Steer trailer it has designed to transport enormous pre-stressed concrete bridge beams to Hastings for a new bridge over the Mississippi River.
Forty-five bridge beams, or girders, were manufactured by Cretex in Elk River and are record-breaking in length among bridges built by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, according to the story.
The largest weighs 212,000 pounds and is 174 feet long.
They have been transported to Hastings using an eight-axle Hydra-Steer trailer developed by Elk River Machine. The trailer is controlled wirelessly and independently of the truck.
