Josh Chuba garnered both singles and doubles championships Monday as Elk River hosted a Northwest Suburban Conference boys tournament.

Chuba, Elk senior-to-be, beat Pat Gallagher of Anoka 10-2 in the singles finals, his fourth win of the tournament plus a bye. There were 26 entrants. Gallagher had won the first two NWSC tournaments this summer. This was the first Chuba has entered.

Joe Wetherille beat Logann Burns 10-5 for third place in a duel of two more Elks. Another, Matti Asnake, won consolation.

Chuba and Elk junior-to-be Nathan Chanthamontry won doubles, beating Fridley’s Max Fite and Luke Prosser 6-2, 6-2 in the finals of an eight-team competition. The Fridley pair placed third in their section this year.

Burns and Wetherille placed third, and Jake Fite and A.J. Fredricks of Fridley won consolation.

Elk River will host a girls NWSC tournament on July 9.
