Tim Sanford drilled a three-run homer and Sam Wirtz added a solo shot as Elk River topped Zimmerman 12-4 in Legion baseball on Wednesday evening.

Joey Hudson pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs (three hits, three walks, two hit batters) and Brady Givens got the win as he finished the five-inning game with 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run. He got the final out with bases loaded in the third.

Sanford’s homer came in the first inning, and Wirtz connected during a seven-run fifth inning. Corey Collins was 1-for-2 with two walks, two steals, an RBI and two runs. The Elks collected eight walks.

The game had a late start as the umpire didn’t get there in time, and was called after five innings to due fading light.
