Police report: Runaway tire, tired man going fast and a ‘joy ride’

Semi loses tire, which hits Cretex building

A tire that came off a semi-tractor/trailer as it traveled through Elk River ended up hitting a building at Cretex.

The tire damaged an overhead door, according to the Elk River Police report.

The rig had been traveling east on Highway 10 near Xenia Avenue in Elk River when the incident happened.

It was reported to police at 12:29 p.m. June 22.

Man cited for going 87 in a 65 mph zone

A man clocked on radar going 87 mph in a 65 zone on Highway 10 told Elk River police he was in a hurry to get home because he was tired.

He was cited.

The incident happened at 8:55 p.m. June 23 at Highway 10 and County Road 15 in Big Lake Township, while Elk River police were working a traffic detail.

Charges pending after youth take a ‘joy ride’

Charges are pending after three youths took a vehicle for a “joy ride” without permission.

The owner of the car was the parent of one of the girls.

Police had been called to an Elk River residence at 7:51 p.m. June 23 on a report of a possible vehicle theft.

The youths had driven to several locations before returning to Elk River, where the vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner.

No light on bike leads to warrant arrest

A 19-year-old man was arrested on a Sherburne County warrant and taken to jail after police stopped two people for riding bicycles without illuminated lights to the front.

The stop occurred at 2:21 a.m. June 25 in the 300 block of Gates Avenue in Elk River.
