Sam Wirtz knocked in three runs and Terry Hadden homered, while the sane pair did the pitching as well, leading Elk River Legion past Sartell 11-6 on Monday.
The Elks also lost to Osseo 4-3 last Friday. They are 4-1 in league play and 7-3 overall.
They will play at Zimmerman on Wednesday and at St. Augusta on Thursday, each 6:15 p.m.
“This team has great talent and ability,” said coach Josh Juntunen. “They just need to come to the park every day ready to work hard, play sound baseball and have fun. That will be the keys to our success.”
Osseo 4, Elk River 3
Osseo scored three runs in the last of the seventh, capped by Bret Moody’s two-run single, to pull out a win over the Elks in Osseo on Friday.
Elk starter Brandon Meyer took a 3-1 lead into the seventh. He pitched 6 1/3 innings and was charged with all four runs, giving up only four hits and two walks, striking out five. The final hit, by Moody, came against reliever Brady Givens.
The Elks had only three hits, by Matt Baker, Tim Stanford and Meyer. Three walks helped them score three runs in the first.
Osseo’s Moody and Ryan Mickelson each had two hits.
Elk River 11, Sartell 6
The Elks had came out swinging, led by Wirtz, 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, and Hadden, 3-for-4 with a double, solo homer, two runs, and two RBI.
Tim Sanford was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, and Tucker Morrell 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Hadden pitched five innings, allowing six runs (two earned), on seven hits and two walks, He struck out four. Wirtz pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
