Baseball: Elk Legion has 6-2 record

The Elk River Legion baseball team has a 6-2 record, with six different pitchers notching a win apiece, reports coach Josh Juntunen.

The Elks lost their opener to Waite Park 10-8, then defeated Zimmerman 9-2 with Joey Hudson going the distance, and defeated Big Lake 2-0 with Porter Morrell going six for the win and Brady Givins finishing for the save.

At a tournament in Marshall, the Elks won three of four. Tucker Morrell pitched a 5-1 win over Albany. Terry Hadden took the loss when Marshall nipped the Elks 3-2. The Elks outlasted Metro Fargo 11-7 with  Carter Harrop getting the win in middle relief (five innigns) and Sam Wirtz the save. Brandon Meyer pitched a five-inning, 8-3 win over Albany shortened by rain.

This Tuesday, the Elks beat Sauk Rapids-Rice 11-0 with Wirtz throwing the six-inning shutout on a two-hitter with four walks and five strikeouts.

Sam Krick is hitting .467 with six RBI. Givens is hitting .444 with 13 RBI, six of them against Sauk Rapids with a grand slam homer and two-run homer. Hadden is hitting .420 wit six RBI and Meyer .363 with nine RBI.

The Elks will play at Osseo on Friday 6:15 p.m.
