Fourth of July fireworks fund drive presses on

The Elk River Independence Day Committee is nearing its goal of raising enough money to put on another Independence Day program and fireworks show.

With continued support from the city of Elk River to the tune of $5,000 for baseline program and operational costs, the committee has now topped the $18,000 mark in its drive. The group has secured another $4,000 in commitments from groups and organizations in the community, but it still needs more people, businesses and organizations to come through.

Event organizers have asked RES Pyrotechnics to prepare another $15,000 display based on the belief that the committee will reach its fund-raising goals.

“We pulled it off the first two years, and we’re confident it can be done again,” said Jim Boyle, the chair of the Independence Day Committee.

“We still have a ways to go, but it’s amazing how every little bit adds up.”

The Independence Day Committee continues to tap residents of the community with donation bins spread out at various businesses around town and it’s planning a Tip Night at the Elk River Pizza Ranch Monday, July 2.

The committee also learned this past week that Zylstra Harley-Davidson in Elk River is launching a food drive for CAER this weekend in conjunction with its plans to participate in the July 4th celebration. They also have a donation jar.
