Ask a Sheriff: Has heroin use increased in our area?

A: Yes, in the last year, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office has seen a large increase in heroin drug use. The Sherburne County Drug Task Force has identified and arrested multiple heroin users and dealers.

The sheriff’s office has also seen several of these individuals get involved in other crimes, like theft and burglary so they can support their drug habit. Some heroin users also turn to dealing the drug to support their habit as well.

Many heroin users started using opiate-based prescription medication prior to becoming addicted or using heroin. Heroin is a very dangerous and addictive drug; it is one of the toughest drug habits to kick.  Within the last year, the sheriff’s office had two heroin overdose-related deaths. — Joel Brott, Sherburne County sheriff
