Funds for the fireworks started to roll in this past week, as the Elk River Independence Day Committee received news of $1,000 contributions from the Elk River Lions, the Elk River Eagles Club and the Minnesota School of Business.
First National Bank also submitted a $500 contribution and Kettle River Consulting wrote a check for $250.
The committee also got money from the Elk River Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast from a collection that was taken up on the day of the event.
The Independence Day Committee hopes to raise at least $15,000 for fireworks again this year, but it has a long way to go.
The Elk River Economic Development Authority has already kicked in $6,000, and the city of Elk River is expected to support the event by covering the cost of police and fire protection and baseline program costs for the event.
The Independence Day Committee is working with a new fiscal agent this year. The Rivers Edge Downtown Business Association, a 501c3 nonprofit, has agreed to serve as the fiscal agent. The Elk River American Legion did it for the first two years of the event.
Donations can be made out to Rivers Edge — Fourth of July Fireworks Fund and sent in to 506 Freeport Ave. N.W., Elk River, Minn., 55330. Letters went out to businesses and organizations last week seeking contributions.
