Golf: Elk boys finish 3rd in NWSC, Kline is season medalist
Elk River’s six-year reign as conference boys golf champion has ended although the Elks did have the individual medalist this year in Alex Kline.
The Elks finished third for the season after tying for fifth place n the last of five conference meets on a rainy Thursday at Bunker Hills.
Kline shot 78, five strokes off the lead, on Thursday, but his 35.125 average score led the conference, and made all-NWSC for the fourth straight year.
He was followed by Osseo’s Dalton Charboneau with 35.88 and Andover’s AJ. Oster with 36.5.
Two other Elks in the top 20, making all-conference, were senio Jordan Peterson with 40.0 and freshman Garrett Turnacliff with 40.13.
The Andover Huskies are the new champion. They won the final meet Thursday and finished with 50.5 conference points, followed by Maple Grove with 44 and the Elks with 42.
Andover’s Davis Tollette and Blaine’s Dakota Krech tied for first on Thursday with 73.
Team scoring was Andover 311, Centennial 317, Blaine 325, Osseo 329, Anoka 330, Elk River 330, Maple Grove 332, Armstrong 338, Champlin Park 347, Coon Rapids 351, Park Center 360
Along with Kline’s 78, the Elks other counting scorers were Peterson with 81, Turnacliff with 86, and Joe Martin with 86.
Next for the Elks is Section 7AAA starting Monday at Grand National in Hinckley. Teams and individuals who survive the cut will compete again Thursday.
